Priority Of Prepping List For Beginners | Preps To Get First

(Video Transcript)

What is the priority of prepping? How do you know what to prep first and what goals do you set in terms of preparation? Well, let’s talk about my priorities and my prepping list so that maybe you can get some ideas about where to start.

Hey everybody! It’S Magic Prepper and today we’re talking about priorities of prepping and prepping list. How do you get started? What do you attack in terms of goals of preparedness? It can be easy to get lost in the different levels of preparation with all the equipment, gear supplies, training and knowledge. It can be very overwhelming when you first start getting into preparedness or, if you’ve been in it for a long time, and you don’t have an idea of your priority level for different types of preparedness or if you don’t have goals that you’ve set for your preparedness. It can be very difficult to stay on track, So if you’re trying to stay on track and be as prepared as possible for whatever might come in, the future then hit the subscribe button below, because we can keep talking about everything we’re doing over here and hopefully Give you some ideas over there.

I can’t tell you exactly what your priorities of prepping list should be, but I can share with you mine to hopefully give you some ideas about where you can get started And if you’re new to prepping make sure you get lots of different opinions and get lots of Different information, so you can kind of formulate whatever works best for you.

I live in rural North Dakota, so what might work best for me might not be the best thing for you and we have to keep that in mind when we try to digest other information from other sources, just to make sure that we’re being as well-rounded as Possible.

Okay, so first things first priority of prepping. We have to talk about what it is. You need to literally survive.

First and foremost, there are a lot of things that we can live without that we would like to have in case of an SHTF situation or some kind of a large-scale emergency, But at the end of the day, what really matters is survival and staying alive.

So, in order to do that, you have to have some things covered, just to keep yourself afloat. So the first thing on my priority prepping list of prepping is shelter. If you don’t have somewhere to be it’s very hard to continue prepping. How do you prep supplies? How do you prep different quantities of things like food or water or whatever it might be, if you don’t have anywhere, to put it And at the same time, it’s very hard to plan for anything when it doesn’t have a location involved?

So shelter is very important right here. I have just examples of just about everything on this prepping list. This hiking tent is a good example of just shelter, because your shelter can be anything from your home to your vehicle to your bug out location to a tent to whatever it might be. That’s part of your disaster preparedness plan. You might live in an RV. That’s your shelter and that’s going to restrict your ability to prep based on size of storage capacity, So you have to plan accordingly to your shelter situation and if you want to be as best prepared as possible, one of your number one priorities, at least in my opinion and what I do is to try to get a good location with a good amount of storage and a good amount of privacy.

In order to do what it is, you need to do to be best prepared and to situate yourself away from where the trouble is most likely to occur. But don’t let your situation stop you from being more prepared. So if you live in a high-rise apartment, evaluate your space, evaluate your capability and plan around the fact that that’s where you live And the same thing goes for those of you who have 150 acres in Maine in some kind of a mansion that only cost you a hundred thousand dollars, because if you live there and you have no one around you, your planning has to operate in the same way that somebody else’s might when it comes to space and location, so make sure shelter is a priority.

Because that’s what I think is a good priority And in a survival situation before food and before water shelter is so important, because exposure is what takes a lot of people out, Okay, so moving on from there.

The second priority on our prepping list, like I said, survivability, is extremely important. So water has to be a priority. Now water can mean a lot of things. Do you have storage? Do you have water put away in case an emergency occurs? Do you have the ability to treat water? Do you have access to water on a regular basis? Keep all those things in mind and make water a priority, because we all know you cannot live without it And over here I’ve got the Berkey filter system as a representation of one of my water preps, something that I can utilize to treat water. That might not be from a clean source and we all know in an SHTF situation, any kind of emergency, it’s very likely that the water that even flows to your home, if the pipes are still working, might not be potable.

We’ve all seen the boil notices and everything else during hurricanes. Keep that in mind and make water a priority, at least in my opinion.

Okay, it’s very high on the prepping list for me And now that I’ve finally established my shelter and I’m at a new location. I can then take my water storage to the next level and take my water treatment to the next level, So these are things that all kind of snowball off of each other right.

So the third thing about survivability is food. Without food you don’t live long. You can live a lot longer without food than you can without water, but food is extremely important, so make sure you have plans in place and you prioritize acquiring food.

Beans and rice are a great place to start if you’re new to prepping. Please understand that beans and rice is just very cliche, but has a reason behind it: High in calories, easy to store long-term and is very dense, so not much space is taken up, So figure out ways to store away things like rice and beans.

Then look at your rotational pantry when it comes to canned goods And then start looking into things like how to produce your own food and how to have a sustainable situation for the long-term if there ever is a big-time emergency event. These are things that we all should be looking at, especially when it comes to our own preps And I’m never comfortable. Where I am in the sense of food supply, You can always have more food. Yes, eventually, you run out of space, but that’s where shelter comes into place. If your shelter is a tent, you can only have so much food and you should probably hang it up in a bear bag, or else you’re gon na have some serious problems.

So keep that in mind that without shelter, water and food everything else is not going to be as important, because without those three things in any kind of emergency, you’re really in a bad situation. Everything else after those three is just to make things a little bit easier after the fact, at least in my opinion, like I said you might live right next to a raging river and water is not that big of a deal for you That’s a great place to be.

However, now you can focus on the other parts of your preps and what that moves into next, at least in my opinion, for me what I prioritize And if you know anything about this channel, you know this is legit number four on this prepping list that I haven’t Even numbered is security.

So without security, without a proper way of defending yourself and defending your supplies, you cannot have those supplies or you can’t guarantee you’re going to be able to keep them if something was to happen. Okay, and now, when I say security, I don’t just mean get the equipment and get the gear. What I mean is you need to also get training. You also need to get basic concepts under your belt so that you have proficiency in order to be as secure as you can, And security doesn’t just relate to things that help defend you. Security also relates to things like surveillance, So understand that security as an entire concept is very overarching and very broad, and something that you have to dial in based on your shelter location. In order to be as secure as possible And over here, I have the plate carrier as a representation of self-defense and security, because things like a plate carrier can be very useful in an emergency situation.

But there are also scenarios where it’d be very difficult for you to even utilize, especially based on your shelter location, Because if you live in somewhere like an urban environment wearing a full-on plate carrier is going to make you stick out like a sore thumb. Now, if you live where I live, I can walk around my property with a plate carrier on and no one’s going to say a word to me because I don’t see anybody anyway. So keep that in mind.

So things are very important in the sense of being able to secure your shelter, your water and your food, And without that security, to help guarantee you maintaining some of those prep supplies, they might all disappear anyway. So that’s why it’s a huge priority for me. And like I said, I’m sharing my priorities of prepping with you so that, hopefully you can get some better ideas about things that you can work on. It’s not going to work for every single person out there, but it might help you get some ideas and that’s the whole point of what we do here on this channel.

So you know, if you haven’t been here before, welcome. Why am I saying numbers I’m so used to dang prepping lists anyway?

The next priority I have in my prepping is medical. So for survivability are very important water, food and shelter and being able to defend yourself is very important too.

But let’s say you have to defend yourself and things get a little dicey and next thing you know you have to treat a wound. Well, without any medical knowledge, things are going to turn south very quickly and at the same time, without any medical supplies or medical gear of any kind. It’s going to get very difficult for you, so keep in mind that maintaining a well-stocked first aid kit of some kind is very important, and then you need to move that first aid kit that you bought at Walmart 10 years ago.

That has Coleman on the front of it into something a little bit more substantial in the sense of a blowout kit or an immediate first aid kit, because those kits are basically boo-boo kits and when it comes to SHTF scenarios, medical encompasses everything. So you need to get yourself a really solid, well-put-together first aid kit, And you also need to make sure you have your medical needs wrapped up When I say that what I mean is: do you have additional medicine? Do you rely on medication in order to survive? If you do medical for, you might even be more important than security, because maybe without your medicine, you can’t maintain the food water shelter, no matter what kind of security you have.

So these are very important things for you to decide on right now. Getting training and having knowledge at least basic proficiencies in first aid is extremely important And then having the concepts and the ability to utilize things like antibiotics or treat infections or possibly how to suture a wound. A lot of those things come into play, So medical is huge and it’s an area that I definitely lack in in some ways, and I am looking forward to expanding my knowledge base in that area very soon here So understand that this is important. Medical is huge If you can’t treat a wound. If you can’t keep someone from dying to dysentery, then all the other things aren’t going to make much of a difference. At the end of the day, and here I’ve got my Refuge, Medical first aid kit ready to rock. This is a great first aid kit that can help you in a survival kit or something like that get by for whatever might be happening to utilize.

What you can utilize the resources? You have researched what kind of medical kits you might need, based on your locale and based on what the immediate threat would be likely to be in a situation involving an emergency, Okay, medical, huge, huge, huge, so moving on from there.

Another priority of prepping is your kit and when I say kit alright, for me, I love gear. I love equipment, we all do it’s cool, it’s fun, but you have to have basic knowledge of your bug out bag and you also have to use your gear because if you don’t, you won’t know how it works and there is gear that I own and I’m sure there’s Gear that tons of preppers out there own that they still haven’t gotten around to utilizing And unfortunately, that’s just part of the game, sometimes due to the time constraints we’re all dealt with when it comes to work, family, home everything else related to just trying to live. In life, However, utilizing your gear is the best way to know if it’s going to work for you or not, so don’t just spend tons of money on all types of different equipment and kit gear.

If you don’t have the time to find out, if it’s actually going to work for you at some point in time now, when it comes to kit, I’ve got my go bag here, which is one of my vehicle bags, and that’s what I’m talking about.

When I mean kits, bug out bags, go bags, basically all your survival tools, like your hatchets and your saws and your water filters your night vision that might be a little bit higher on the prepping list, but anyway mess kits fire starters.

Everything else you might need kit covers that entire idea And you can call it a survival kit if you like, but work on building out a kit of some kind that you know you can rely on in the sense of an emergency. That kind of covers all your bases, So that if you can only grab one bag or if you have a stockpile of supplies in your home, you know that whatever the challenge that gets thrown at you might be, you have a way to respond to it. So kit is huge, Like I said, bug out bags and everything all that stuff. It’S awesome And here’s a great part about kit Kit is a great way to get other people in the door. I think a bug out bag might be the best way to get somebody started in prepping because it’s fun. It’S exciting: there’s a goal in mind to build out this kit that can definitely save your life in any kind of scenario that might occur, And it gives somebody something to work on that they can be excited about And then you can move them into the other Facets of preparedness So to me, that’s another benefit of kit. It’S another reason why I prioritize it And don’t forget when it comes to things like shelter and trying to survive wherever you might be, a kit can be a big part of maintaining that shelter. When I say that what I mean is the fire-starting utilities you have in your kit could keep you warm or help you cook meat, The paracord, that’s in your kit can help you maintain the shelter or help you repair your clothes or who knows what else it Might be, But there’s a lot of things that kit can bring to the table to try to make life a little bit easier, So kit’s a huge priority: okay, Cutting out the numbers, I’m gon na stop saying numbers.

Power is the next priority. So we’ve gone through the prepping list: shelter, water, food security, medical and kit. So power is this far down on the prepping list and now for a lot of people, they might say: “ Look power’s a huge priority for me “. I need a generator to turn on. As soon as the power goes out “, I want my family to be comfortable, secure, “. I want everyone to feel safe, “ and power. Brings that comfort to the table. .” Totally understand that.

However, at the end of the day, my thought process, at least just to share my opinion with you – is that power is very important to have, but is not necessary to survival to staying alive. Power will not necessarily make that difference as much as water or food or medical. So that’s why it’s this low on the prepping list of my priorities, And maybe that’s something for you to consider. There are people out there who need to put power way up higher on the prepping list. If you rely on some sort of machinery to maintain a certain aspect of your life that you can’t live without, then power might be really really high on the prepping list. If you have somebody in your home who relies on medical equipment to stay alive, then power might be number one for you, I’m not sure, but this is just my priorities based on my situation, So power still very important Gas generators, propane generators, butane generators, solar generators, as represented by this little contraption back here, which hopefully one of these days, I’ll have a little bit more time to spend on. However, let me tell you something: Power is very important and it can definitely help keep your family in good spirits during a big-time emergency event. It can also keep you alive, especially if you rely on it for things like heat, So make sure you have ways to generate your own power. It’s not always going to be there, not always going to have the luxury of being able to turn on the switch and everything turn on someday.

Your power will go out, no matter where you live, It might not be for more than an hour. It might be for two weeks It could be forever. We don’t know all I’m saying is that being able to generate power of any kind, extremely helpful, And if you’re new to this, you can start with something as small as a power bank that has a solar panel on the front that can at least charge things Like your cell phone And if that’s at least where you can get started with things that can provide you some sort of power, then that’s a great place to start. Keep that in mind, because power is very important, but it also doesn’t necessarily keep somebody alive.

The same way as shelter, water, food security and medical, Okay, kit, you can kind of put power in the kit if you want, because in my kits I do have solar power banks anyway.

Next on the prepping list which is on this part of the list, which isn’t a list, why do I keep doing? That Is because you have to have power in order to have comms so over here I’ve got a basic ham radio set up, I’m not a big tech guy when it comes to ham or anything like that. Yet I’m learning trying to get used to equipment don’t have a license to broadcast or anything like that yet which you do need in order to legally broadcast on ham. But what I can say is that comms can be the difference in almost any kind of situation. Logistics are extremely important, and information is a really good resource. To have Information in an emergency event can keep everybody around you more positive and more tuned into? What’S really going on And being able to scan the airwaves and receive information and broadcast information could be the difference of life and death Being able to basically mayday an emergency out there and throw a hail mary that somebody might be listening could sometimes be the difference Of being saved or not so, comms are important and if it’s as basic as a handheld Balfang all the way up to some of the big transceiver units out there that can broadcast halfway across the world whatever it is that you decide on when it comes to Comms understand that they’re, very important and being able to talk to even just your immediate family on your own property can be a big force multiplier in the sense of security.

So understand that comms communications very important. Do your best to get some ideas and get some plans together to expand your ability to communicate and utilize that intelligence and that information to keep yourself ahead of the game. Okay, so another prepping priority, one of the most important assets that is out there in the world that many of us forget about and don’t rely on and tend to look at in a negative way are other people And they’re very, very important during an emergency situation. Community networking building groups, building assistance groups and being able to rely on your neighbor can be the biggest difference in any kind of an emergency situation. So do not fool yourself that you can do all this by yourself. You can’t You need to get other people involved.

You don’t have to reveal everything you own or everything you do to every single other person you involve yourself with, but you do need to at least have a basic network of people put together that you know you can talk to and rely on in case. Something was to go obscure and in that situation a neighborhood can come together and pull off some miraculous things. In case, you haven’t ever seen that before there’s tons of examples during natural disasters all over this country, where people came together and saved each other’s lives, so put things into place. Now that help you network with the right people, that you have the same preparedness concepts shared in the sense of mindset with each other. So that way you know, there’s some reliable people out there that can come to your aid if the emergency ever arises. Keep networking and keep groups and everything else related to mutual assistance top of mind and make it a priority. Because we need more of that. In this world We tend to use technology to shut ourselves off and basically build walls, and then we don’t communicate and in our time of need, there’s no one there to come help you so networking is huge, a big prepping priority for me right now anyway, and I will be trying to reach out and basically meet more of the community here very soon, since I recently relocated.

Okay, so the last priority – and this is something that I don’t see a lot of people talk about – I do see certain channels discuss things related to this and talking about different asset classes that are out there, but wealth is a big-time thing that you should be prepping for.

Now, when I say that what do I mean, Of course, don’t buy lottery tickets and hope to get rich and don’t just wait for it to be handed to you, but prepping financially is very important. It’s not discussed very much because it’s not that exciting, but at the same time it’s obvious. So people don’t like to talk about it because money is a frowned upon subject in many ways, but the more wealth you can acquire and the more money you can put away.

The more access you’ll have to being better prepared. It just goes hand in hand, And it shouldn’t be said necessarily, but it does need to be said, because if you’re not prioritizing your ability to gain wealth, gain money and put yourself in a better financial situation, then you won’t ever be as prepared as you want To be, The people who are the most prepared in the entire world are rich because they can afford to be as prepared as they want to be. I can’t I’m sure you can’t either So it is difficult to be as prepared as we would like to be when we don’t have the resources to do so. But if we don’t make acquiring those resources a priority, whether it’s to eliminate debt, whether it’s to gain extra income in order to subsidize some of our preparedness or if it’s just the ability to put yourself on a different tier in the sense of class, so that you can afford to really acquire everything.

It is that you want, and for some people that means having a super yacht in the middle of the ocean because to them that’s the best place to be during an SHTF situation For some people they might want to buy a missile silo and have a bunker underground, that’s awesome too. I can’t afford either of those things right now and I’m sure most of you can’t either, but let’s not fool ourselves, try to keep that as a priority as well.

If you buy all of the prepping supplies in the world, but you make yourself bankrupt during the process, it still might not turn out very good for you, and we also have to prepare for this one other scenario, which is super obscure, highly unlikely and everybody’s, probably gonna laugh when I say this, but there’s one big-time scenario – that we need to prepare for that. None of us like to admit – and that is nothing happening and if nothing happens, you’ll be really glad. You have all the supplies that we just talked about. You’Ll, be really glad that you made the moves that I just talked about in terms of priorities of preparedness, But you’ll be really glad if you also prioritize wealth and gaining more of it in order to gain access to better preparedness. So I wanted to bring this to your attention. Hopefully this can help motivate those of you who are already in the game And for the people who are new to prepping.

Welcome. Please ask questions in the comments below let everybody else know if there’s anything else, that we need to discuss that, maybe you didn’t really catch in the video or maybe, if there’s other things that you’re unsure about There’s a great community here, People will help you And It’S a great time to get started with all of this. Obviously, the earlier you start the better, But if you’re starting right now we’re still here and we’re still going to make it happen And we’re going to do the best we can to help you prepare. So don’t be afraid to ask questions And, like I said this is my priority prepping list of prepping. This is what I kind of look at And, of course, there’s more things to the prepping list. But if I mentioned every single thing that I try to prepare or I try to set as a goal in terms of preparedness, this video would be way way too long. Okay, so just wanted to bring that up. Let me know if you have anything else to add in the comments below And besides that that’s gonna be it for Magic Prepper.
